5 Things I’ve Learned as a New Work at Home Mom
Owning a business and having a baby at home with you is HARD.
Let me tell you... it ain't for the faint-hearted!
But I will tell you... it is for those who are self-motivated and intentional with their boundaries and routine!
That being said, here's what I’ve learned as a NEW work at home mama:
WAKE UP BEFORE YOUR FAMILY WAKES UP.
I read this somewhere while I was pregnant and I completely brushed it off, thinking that person was crazy. But let me tell you, Mama — waking up BEFORE your babies wake up will not only give you time to do things for yourself, but start your day on a more productive note!
GET YOUR CHILD ON A ROUTINE ASAP.
One thing I’ve learned is that my son will thrive on a routine. Yes, I’m fully aware that not all babies will thrive on a routine, and most of the time that routine goes out the window, but the more you try to stick to that routine, the faster your baby will pick up on things and learn what to expect and when.
LEARN TO LAUGH IT OFF WHEN LIFE HAPPENS.
The other day my son was screaming his head off in his swing, the dog had just pooped on the carpet, my husband was calling asking what to pick up at the store and I was trying to catch up on emails. I was at my limit. Instead of having a break down, I took a deep breath and started to laugh. It’s like I was living a comedy sitcom!
BE INTENTIONAL AND SET BOUNDARIES.
If you’re spending the day being a mom, then be a mom. Work can wait. That being said, make sure you have a plan to keep things moving ahead of time, whether it be through automations or team support. Also, make sure you set clear boundaries with your clients so they know when you’ll be available. And ACTUALLY be available to them during that time!
IT'S OKAY TO ASK FOR SUPPORT.
One thing I’ve learned is that working at home with a baby is HARD. Raising a child really DOES take a village… and that’s okay! It’s okay to rely on your husband to take that baby after he gets home from work. It’s okay to ask for your mom to come baby sit for the day, so you can get some work done. It’s okay to hire a part-time babysitter to keep your baby occupied during client calls and work days. Just because you’re home with the baby, doesn’t mean you have to DO IT ALL!
You really CAN be a work-at-home mom! You just need a routine, an automated business, and intentional boundaries.
